The end of summer is approaching (contrary to popular notions it does not end Labor Day but instead, on September 22).
Wah.
Summer’s end means many things to me. No, my kids won’t be returning to school – those days are long past. As such, I won’t be navigating my way through the aisles with them to pick out new school supplies, either.
Big sigh of relief.
I may be putting those days behind me, and along with those, I’ll be packing away half of my closet, including my sandals, tank tops, shorts and bathing suits.
Sob.
But there are surely some safe and sane ways to keep summer alive.
How?
With makeup. It’s timeless, really. Unlike a wardrobe, it doesn’t have seasonal restrictions. You can wear it whenever, wherever. A pink lipstick will serve you just as well in the heat as it will in winter’s chill.
Do you like my reasoning?
So I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands and look like summer never ended- by sporting a year-round tan. No, I don’t do tanning beds. Nor do I do the “real” sun, since I’ve already done so much damage to my skin before we all knew those lovely rays were carcinogenic.
That’s precisely why I like self-tanners. I was so excited when they first came onto the market; but it took me no time to realize that I wasn’t fooling anyone, really. That sun-kissed orange look gave me away. And so did the odor.
Wicked.
Thankfully, new and improved self-tanners have been developed and you can really fake a tan with so many of them – without looking fake. One of my favorites is made by the company tarte. It isn’t stinky. It looks totally natural. And while it tans your skin, it also moisturizes it with something called maracuja oil – lovely! And it comes with a mitt, so you can exfoliate first to ensure an even, streak-free tan.
Brilliant.
Actually, some of that word is in the name. It’s called Brazilliance skin rejuvenating maracuja self-tanner
See? Summer doesn’t have to end. Neither does your tan.

Brazilliance sounds like a great tanner and so much better for your health than a sunburn! You always find the neatest beauty products.

I say that you should come and visit Southern California and get a tan the natural way!! Hehe…xoxo

From the continuing furnace that is Texas summer, I say I’m ready for it to be over yesterday.

I’m a fan of self-tanners and always on the lookout for something new. I love that this one is free of parabens. Thanks for the tip!

I’d long given up on tanners for the reasons you stated, but this sounds like one to try!

So with you on the joy of not having to get back-to-school supplies! This “kids in college” thing is A-OK so far. As for self-tanners, I guess I’ll just stick with my freckles. 🙂
